How to teach Class 4 Maths Chapter 7, The Cleanest Village, at home
Money, shopping and estimation, taught with things you already have at home: a 10-minute activity, a game for the week, a 5-day plan and the mistakes to watch for.
NCERT Class 4 Maths Chapter 7 The Cleanest Village: what it teaches
A school trip to Mawlynnong means shopping: prices per kilogram, totals and change. Your child adds and subtracts money, estimates the bill before paying, and checks whether the money is enough.
Why it matters later. Money problems use addition, subtraction and estimation together, which is exactly how maths is used in real life.

You need
- a shopping list and a few price tags
- play or real notes up to ₹500
- a pencil and paper for bills
Tonight’s 10 minutes
- Write prices for 1 kg of four fruits. Your child makes a bill for 2 kg of one and 1 kg of another.
- Estimate first: round each price to the nearest ten, add, then find the exact total.
- Pay with a ₹500 note. How much change comes back?
- Plan a trip budget of ₹500 per child: what can the class buy?
