How to teach Class 2 Maths Chapter 10, Fun at the Fair, at home
Money: adding, spending and change, taught with things you already have at home: a 10-minute activity, a game for the week, a 5-day plan and the mistakes to watch for.
NCERT Class 2 Maths Chapter 10 Fun at the Fair: what it teaches
With ₹50 at a fair, your child works out what they can buy, how much they spent and how much is left. They meet the ₹100, ₹200 and ₹500 notes and older paise coins, and make the same amount in different ways.
Why it matters later. Money makes addition and subtraction practical. Finding what was spent by counting up from what is left is a strategy your child will use for all subtraction.

You need
- real coins and notes: ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10, ₹20, ₹50
- price tags on paper
- a small bag for “shopping”
Tonight’s 10 minutes
- Give your child ₹50 in mixed coins and notes. Set up a stall with prices from ₹5 to ₹30.
- After each purchase, ask: how much did you spend, how much is left?
- Ask for ₹66 in three different ways using the coins and notes.
- Find how much was spent by counting up from what is left to what you started with.
Words to use
- rupees
- paise
- spent
- left
- change
- total
- cost
Watch for
- Subtracting the wrong way round (money left minus money spent). Start with what you had. Money you had − money spent = money left.
- Forgetting to count notes and coins separately. Sort by value first, add the notes, then the coins.
