Make a new metric units worksheet
Need another page for extra practice, a retake or a second group in class? The free Mathify Kids test maker builds a fresh metric units worksheet with different numbers every time. Choose Core, Standard or Challenge level, print it with its own answer key, or let your child take it on screen and see the score straight away.
Metric units: a worked example (3.5 km to meters and 250 cm to meters)
- 1 km = 1,000 m, so 3.5 km = 3.5 × 1,000 = 3,500 m.
- 100 cm = 1 m, so 250 cm = 250 ÷ 100 = 2.5 m.
- Big unit to small unit: multiply. Small to big: divide.
How to use it at home and in class
At home
Remember the prefixes: kilo means 1,000, centi means a hundredth and milli means a thousandth. Ten problems a day works better than a whole sheet at once. Mark them together with the answer key, then ask your child to explain one they got wrong: finding the mistake themselves is where the learning happens.
In class
Use the first row as a warm-up, a full page for independent practice, or five questions as an exit ticket. For a retake or a second group, make a new version with the test maker so every child gets different numbers.
Mistakes to watch for
- Multiplying when the answer should get smaller.
- Mixing up centi (100) and milli (1,000).
What to practice before and after metric units
- Before: money. If this sheet is a struggle, go back a step.
- After: customary units, once this one is mostly right.
- Learn it first: the metric units lesson and the measurement chart.
