How to teach Class 3 Maths Chapter 8, Fair Share, at home
Halves and equal parts, taught with things you already have at home: a 10-minute activity, a game for the week, a 5-day plan and the mistakes to watch for.
NCERT Class 3 Maths Chapter 8 Fair Share: what it teaches
Sharing a paratha or chikki fairly means cutting it into two equal parts: each part is a half. Your child folds paper, checks whether pieces are really equal, and learns that two halves make one whole.
Why it matters later. Halves are the first fractions. Class 4 extends to quarters and other equal parts.

You need
- paper squares and rectangles
- a roti or paratha
- a knife (for you)
- crayons
Tonight’s 10 minutes
- Fold a paper rectangle in half. Open and check the parts match exactly.
- Find more ways to fold the same paper in half: long way, short way, corner to corner (for a square).
- At a meal, cut a roti: are the parts equal? If not, is either a half?
- Draw a shape, colour half of it, and let your child check by folding.
