How to learn percentages, in order
A percent is just a fraction out of 100, so start with Percents & Decimals to move fluently between 25%, 0.25 and 1/4. Then Percent of a Number (the most common real-world task), Finding the Percent, and finally Increase & Decrease for discounts and growth. Comfort with decimals and fractions first makes all of this much easier.

Common mistakes, and how to help
The frequent slips are moving the decimal the wrong way when converting (50% = 0.50, not 5.0) and finding the change but forgetting to compare it to the original in percent-change problems. Anchoring everything to “per hundred” — and to friendly benchmarks like 10% and 50% — keeps the reasoning honest.

What is a percent?
A part out of 100. 25% means 25 per hundred, which is the same as the decimal 0.25 and the fraction 1/4.
How do you find a percent of a number?
Convert the percent to a decimal and multiply — 25% of 80 is 0.25 × 80 = 20.
How do you convert a percent to a decimal?
Divide by 100, which moves the decimal point two places left — so 50% becomes 0.50.
How do you find percent change?
Find the amount of change, then divide by the original amount and convert to a percent.
